Teachers and students of the Department of Social Work at Rajshahi University (RU) on Thursday formed a human chain demanding justice for the killing of Asma Sadia Runa, former RU student and Islamic University (IU) Social Welfare Department chairman.
The human chain was held at around 11:30 am in front of the university's senate building, organised by the Social Work Association and RU's Social Work department.

During the programme, teachers of the department raised a three-point demand, which includes calling for the identification of the killer and those involved behind the incident; exemplary punishment for the perpetrators and government measures considering the future of Runa's young children.
Professor Dr. Tanjima Johra Habib of the Department of Social Work said, "Asma Sadia Runa was brutally murdered. We have gathered here today to protest this incident. It is neither acceptable nor believable. We demand justice for this killing."
Professor Dr. Akhtar Hossain Mazumder, administrator of the university's Public Relations Office, said, "We expect steps from the Islamic University authorities and the law enforcement agencies of the government."
Professor Golam Kibria Ferdous, chairman of the department, said, "Sadia Runa has three small children. She was not only a mother but also a department chair, part of the university's administration, and a representative of the teaching community."
IU Professor Asma Sadia Runa was stabbed to death on March 4 by an employee of her own department following a dispute over salary issues and transfer to another department.
