Tigers enjoy a remarkable year in T20Is

Bangladesh enjoyed an excellent outing in T20 cricket this year, shattering the long-standing myth that they are vulnerable in this format, report agencies.
Bangladesh ended the year with a record-breaking stat in T20 cricket. They have changed their six-hitting history in a promising way. For the first time ever, the Tigers smashed more than 200 sixes in a single calendar year as they finished 2025 with a staggering 206 sixes. Their previous best was 122 in 2024, which is much far away from this year's stat.
The year itself was a rollercoaster for Bangladesh. It began with a shocking 2-1 series loss to the UAE. After that, they lost 3-0 against Pakistan at Pakistan's home. Then, they made a comeback against Pakistan at home, winning the series 2-1. They also beat Sri Lanka (2-1) in their backyard and beat the Netherlands 2-0 on the way to the Asia Cup.
At the Asia Cup, Bangladesh secured three wins before sweeping Afghanistan 3-0. However, that 4-series straight wins ended as they lost to West Indies 3-0 at home. However, they have finished the year well as they beat Ireland by 2-1.
In total, Bangladesh played 30 T20Is in 2025, where they won 15 and lost 14, with one match abandoned. The 15 victories are the most Bangladesh have ever achieved in a single calendar year in T20I cricket which shows their growing consistency in the shortest format of the game.
One of the standout improvements this year was Bangladesh's ability to hit sixes. For the first time, they crossed the 200 sixes mark in a calendar year, with 122 sixes in 2023. In 2025, they set a new record by blasting 206 sixes, showcasing a significant leap in their power-hitting.
A total of 18 Bangladeshi batters hit sixes this year where the top-order quartet of Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Litton Das, Parvez Hossain Emon and Saif Hassan combining for 127 sixes on their own.
Tanzid led the list with 41 sixes, the highest ever by a Bangladeshi in a single year. Parvez followed with 34, while Saif, who made his return midway through the year, smashed 29 in just 15 matches. Captain Litton Das struck 23 sixes, and middle-order batter Jaker Ali added 19.
Towhid Hridoy, with 14 sixes, was the only other player to cross double digits, though both he and Jaker fell short of their 21-six tallies from 2024.
Bangladesh accumulated 4,229 runs (excluding extras) in T20Is this year, with 29 per cent of those runs coming from sixes. Bangladesh also hit a record 298 fours which shows their newly-found attacking intent in T20 format.
This surge in six-hitting has also translated to an increase in their run-scoring pace. Bangladesh's batters averaged a strike rate of 125.97 throughout the year, the highest they've recorded in years where they've played at least five T20Is.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe in May 2024, has emerged as a key player in this transformation. In just one year, he established himself as a mainstay in the team. Leading the charge in six-hitting, he smashed 41 sixes from 27 innings in 2025.
His opening partner, Parvez Hossain Emon, followed closely with 34 sixes, while Saif Hassan and Liton Das also made significant contributions, hitting 29 and 23 sixes, respectively.
Tanzid also set a new record for the most runs by a Bangladesh batter in a calendar year, amassing 775 runs from 27 innings at a strike rate of over 135.
His explosive performances, along with the consistency of the top order, have injected confidence into Bangladesh's T20 game.
However, the middle order has been a concern. Despite several players like Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Patwari, Towhid Hridoy, and Nurul Hasan being tested throughout the year, none have managed to fully seize their roles. While they've had occasional good performances, they've struggled with consistency.
This inconsistency has been particularly evident in their low strike rates, which are among the lowest for middle-order batters in T20 cricket.
After Parvez Hossain Emon's 34 off 26 balls in the final T20I against Ireland, the middle-order's strike rate dropped to the third lowest among Test-playing nations. Emon is basically an opener but to accommodate Saif in the opening slot, he had to move down to the batting order.
On the bowling front, Bangladesh has been consistently strong. Rishad Hossain, in particular, has been exceptional, taking 33 wickets at a strike rate of 8.25 in 25 matches.
He's been well supported by fellow spinners Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan, both of whom have played key roles in winning matches for the team.
Mustafizur Rahman has continued to lead the pace attack, particularly excelling in the death overs. His 26 wickets at an average of 6.09 runs per over this year have been crucial in Bangladesh's success.
