CHITTAGONG, Dec 17: A United States Coast Guard (USCG) team that scrutinised compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code at Chittagong Port has given a very positive report.
The USCG team did not raise any observations (zero observation) against the port, indicating that the port is successfully implementing the ISPS Code.
Secretary of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Omar Faruk said, "Our Chittagong Port is ISPS Code-compliant. As part of the process, the USCG delegation conducted periodic inspections of our security measures. Like other ports in the world, implementation of the ISPS Code at Chittagong Port is evaluated at the international level. The delegation visited Chittagong Port on January 21-22 this year."
He further said, "ISPS Code is a global security framework developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The implementation of this code ensures the safety of ports and ships and creates a conductive environment for the smooth operation of international trade."
The report positively highlighted the security measures taken in the port area, he added.
