Dengue fever claims another 2 lives

FE REPORT | Friday, 10 July 2026

Health authorities recorded two more deaths linked to measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours to 8:00am on Thursday.
With the latest fatalities, the measles-related death toll has risen to 747 since mid-March, including 93 laboratory-confirmed cases, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS also reported 818 suspected and 124 confirmed measles infections during the reporting period.
The cumulative number of suspected measles cases has reached 108,998, while confirmed infections have climbed to 13,198 since mid-March, the DGHS said.
In response to the outbreak, the government has vaccinated more than 18.47 million children since April and said the immunisation campaign will continue.
Meanwhile, health authorities also reported two more dengue-related deaths and 190 new hospital admissions over the past 24 hours. With the latest figures, the total number of dengue deaths has reached 24 and confirmed cases 7,747 since January this year.
A total of 5,455 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 100 in the past 24 hours. So far this month, 2,727 patients have been admitted with dengue.
Barishal continues to record a rising number of new infections, raising concerns among public health experts that the division could face a severe dengue outbreak this year unless preventive measures are strengthened.
Dengue outbreaks in Bangladesh typically occur during the monsoon season from July to October, when waterlogging creates favourable breeding conditions for mosquitoes.
