Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice M Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed called on Saturday for concerted efforts by the relevant ministries to stop human trafficking from the country, reports BSS.
He also suggested creating awareness among the people to prevent the menace.
Justice Mamtaz Uddin said this while speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion organised by Association of Law Research and Human Rights at the National Press Club in the city.
The Press Council chairman said coordinated steps would have to be taken by the ministries for home, foreign affairs and law to prevent human trafficking to other countries from Bangladesh.
Steps should be taken to create public awareness too in this connection, he added.
In some cases, discussions could be held with neighbouring countries, Justice Mamtaz Uddin said and added that even there are scopes to go to the internal court.
He said the issue of Rohingya migrants could be dangerous for Bangladesh.
Presided over by Association of Law Research and Human Rights President Jahangir Alam, the meeting was also addressed by Maj Gen (Retd) Muhammad Ali Sikder, Association of Law Research and Human Rights Vice-President Manoranjan Ghoshal and Dr. Syeda Badrunnahar Chowdhury.
The speakers said only laws cannot prevent human trafficking, if the people are not conscious.
