Leaders of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) marched towards the Ministry of Home Affairs in the capital on Monday, demanding the arrest and trial of those responsible for the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha.
The procession began at around 1:00 pm from in front of the DUCSU building and crossed TSC and Bangla Academy. DU hall union leaders and general students also joined the march.
Despite facing police barricades twice, at the Doel Chattar and the High Court intersection, the protesters continued their march towards the ministry.
Later, a 14-member delegation, led by DUCSU Vice President (VP) Shadik Kayem, held a meeting with Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury at around 2:00 pm. The remaining protesters stayed at the Shikkha Bhaban intersection.
During the meeting, the delegation placed their three-point demands before the adviser. The demands included: immediate arrest of all direct attackers, planners, and accomplices involved in the shooting at Osman Hadi; quickly bringing all the state agencies concerned, including the intelligence bodies, under accountability and ensuring punishment for those found negligent; launching area-based combing operations against the banned Awami League within the next 48 hours, arresting militants of the banned organisation at all levels, and recovering all illegal weapons; and bringing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to the country to enforce the verdict passed against her for crimes against humanity.
The DUCSU leaders warned that if their demands are not met immediately and if there is no visible improvement in the law and order situation, the home affairs adviser, the law adviser, and the foreign affairs adviser must resign.
