Fresh fuel crunch leaves motorists in the lurch
FE REPORT | Monday, 30 March 2026
A worsening fuel shortage left dozens of motorists stranded in long queues across the capital on Sunday, as several filling stations either ran out of fuel or imposed limits on sales, disrupting daily routines and business operations.
At around 9:30 am, private car driver Abdur Razzak joined a queue nearly one kilometre away from Talukdar Filling Station in the capital's Asadgate area.
After waiting for nearly one and a half hours and moving forward gradually, he learned that the pump had already run out of fuel, he said.
Being far back in the line, Razzak said he had no idea the station was closed. "I've already moved forward quite a bit. I'm not going to another pump now. I must get fuel today," he said around noon, still waiting in his private car queue.
With the vehicle nearly out of fuel, he fears he may not be able to refill it before his employer finishes work, he added. A staff member at the station said fuel ran out at around 2:00am, and a tanker had been sent to the depot for resupply.
However, there was no clear timeline for when it would arrive. Despite being informed, many drivers chose to remain in line, he added.
