FE REPORT | Monday, 9 March 2026

The new government has withdrawn five Bangladeshi envoys from their overseas postings and directed them to report to headquarters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
According to a ministry announcement made Sunday, four ambassadors appointed on a contractual basis have been recalled from their missions in Portugal, Poland, Mexico and the Maldives.
The five - Dr M. Mahfuzul Haque, Md Mainul Islam, M Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey and Dr Md Nazmul Islam - have been transferred to the ministry headquarters, the statement says.
In a separate decision, Bangladesh's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Abida Islam, has also been withdrawn from her post and reassigned to the ministry in Dhaka.
All five diplomats have been asked to report to the ministry headquarters.
Prime Minister's adviser on foreign affairs, Humayun Kabir, said, "Several allegations have been raised against Abida Islam, including accusations that she created divisions among members of the Bangladeshi diaspora in the United Kingdom."
