Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday the government will not interfere in the election of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), reports BSS.
"The people of Chattogram will vote for whomever they want, and the government will fully cooperate with the Election Commission in holding a free and fair election.
The government will not interfere in the election," he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, came up with the remarks while speaking at a virtual press briefing on contemporary affairs from his official residence in the city.

He said the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government is working sincerely to build a poverty- and hunger-free Bangladesh. The family of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a unique example of honesty in the country's politics and everyone should take lessons of honesty and dignity from this family, he added.
"For the development of the country, the relentless efforts to build a prosperous Bangladesh must continue under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," the AL general secretary said.
Quader observed that the future politics would be of purity and the spirit of liberation war and science-oriented one. "Those who want to push the country backward, and their misdeeds and intrigues must be resisted politically. And that's why we all must remain united," he said.
Responding to a question, the AL general secretary said the movement of BNP would not be a peaceful one as the party spreads violence in the name of movement and burns people's property in the name of procession.
Mentioning that the BNP is the father of the politics of revenge, he said the common people do not believe in those who patronise the politics of killing and sponsor terrorism.
"Seeing the BNP's programme, the people, not the government, get panicked," Quader added.
