Hasina must land in jail: Farroque
FE REPORT | Saturday, 21 December 2024
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson's adviser Zainul Abdin Farroque has said fallen autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina must have to land in jail even for a single day.
"Sitting in India, Sheikh Hasina is taking coffee and walking in the park in a relax mood. You (Sheikh Hasina) have to come back to Bangladesh and face the trial. You sent Khaleda Zia to jail, so you have to go to Kashimpur jail," he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion titled 'Election Roadmap and Public Expectation', organised by Jatiyatabadi Chalok (driver) Dal at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Friday.
Calling upon the neighbouring country India, he said, "You (India) should correct yourself. We (Bangladesh) don't care about what Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee said on the victory day (16 December)," he said.
"Three affiliated bodies (Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and Swechchasebak Dal) staged a long-march towards Agartala (India). Our Brahmanbaria is enough for to tackle India. The people of Bangladesh are very conscious of defending sovereignty of the country," he continued.
"Conspiracy is going on to spoil nationalist forces and to tarnish the popularity of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. The Awami League men are trying to create chaos in the country and to shift the blame on BNP men. The people of other religions along with Muslim are doing well and they are living peacefully side by side," he stated.
"You (India) helped us during our War of Liberation, so we are grateful to you. But that time you (India) took away Pakistani 500 rupee notes to India from newly-born Bangladesh (the then east Pakistan). That time how much one Pakistani rupee was equivalent to Indian rupee? he said.
Calling upon the interim government, he said, "Don't think about them (India). Think about the people of Bangladesh. The holy month of Ramadan is coming and you (interim government) should be vigilant so that Awami League men cannot make any market syndicates during the upcoming month of fasting," he maintained.
President of Jatiyatabadi Chalok Dal Jashim Uddin Kabir presided over the event that was also attended by its general secretary Jewel Khandaker and president of Desh Bachao Manus Bachao Andolon KM Raqibul Islam Ripon.
Meanwhile BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed left for London in the United Kingdom on Friday morning. He left the capital by a Bangladesh Airlines flight at 8:20 am from Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Member of BNP media cell Sairul Kabir Khan said Mr Salahuddin Ahmed went to the UK to meet with his daughter living in London.
He is also expected to meet the BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in London.
