HC issues rule over legality of allocating spaces to hawkers

Wednesday, 20 May 2026

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday issued a rule seeking explanation as to why the allocation of spaces on roads and footpaths in the capital for hawkers should not be declared illegal and unlawful, reports UNB.
The HC bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty issued the rule on Tuesday.
The court asked the Local Government Secretary, Law Secretary and two Dhaka city corporations' administrators and other authorities concerned to respond to the rule.
The rule was issued after Advocate Md Shoib Uzzaman filed a writ petition with the HC challenging 'Dhaka Hawker Management Policy-2026'.
