Khaleda Zia's health gets more stable, says Dr Zahid

FE REPORT | Saturday, 20 December 2025

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's health saw a bit more improvement on Friday from the utmost stability attained in the past one month, according to his personal physician.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain shared the update to the reporters in front of Evercare Hospital.
Zahid Hossain said Begum Zia's physical condition has been most stable in the past one month.
Stating that doctors from Bangladesh, the US and the UK are there, he said they are checking Begum Zia's health every day.
Today (Friday) too, a small operation of hers was completed very successfully, he added.
Stating that Khaleda Zia is now undergoing treatment in a cabin with ICU facilities of the Coronary Care Unit, Dr. Zahid said, "Even though she is in the CCU, it has all the facilities of the ICU. You can call it being in the ICU."
He also said Dr. Zubaida Rahman is overseeing Khaleda Zia's condition round the clock.
The octogenarian, who transformed herself as a revered political leader through struggles since her husband and former President Ziaur Rahman's assassination, has been suffering from various complications, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney problems, for a long time.
She was sentenced to prison in two cases during the Awami League government- which was toppled in a mass uprising last year--and imprisoned for more than two years before internment on release.
The BNP leader was not allowed to go abroad for treatment despite severe health complications and requests from her doctors, the party leaders deplore.
She was released after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina flew to India on August 5 last year in the face of the uprising that overthrew her government.
