Matheesha Pathirana undergoes surgery on left hamstring

Thursday, 18 June 2026

Matheesha Pathirana underwent surgery for his injured left hamstring in France, the cricketer's manager revealed in an Instagram post on Tuesday, reports Cricbuzz.
"This journey was made possible with the outstanding support of Sri Lanka Cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders and we are truly grateful for their commitment to his wellbeing," the post read.
Pathirana arrived late to IPL 2026 following an earlier calf strain sustained during the preceding T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. After obtaining the required NOC from Sri Lanka Cricket, and subsequent fitness tests by KKR - who bought the pacer for INR 18 crore - Pathirana was fit to resume only late in the IPL season.
Patirana played a solitary game for KKR - against Gujarat Titans on May 16 - and sustained the hamstring injury on field after bowling just eight legal deliveries, ruling him out for the remainder of the competition. He was replaced in the squad by uncapped Karnataka wicketkeeper Luvnith Sisodia ahead of KKR's final league fixture against Delhi Capitals.
He's now undergone open surgical repair for his left biceps femoris hamstring in France.
