Two Naogaon villages come under nat'l power grid
NAOGAON, Jan 01: A total of 116 houses of Latapara and Moazzempara villages under Dhamoirhat Upazila in the district have been connected to the national power grid on Sunday. Shahiduzaman Sarkar, whip of the national parliament, inaugurated the new power connection as the chief guest at a function. Assistant General Manager of Naogaon Palli Bidyut Samity-2 Kamal Hossain, member of Zilla Parishad Nuruzzaman Hossain and UP chairman Osman Ali, among others, attended the programme.     — Our Correspondent
Girl commits suicide in Jessore
JESSORE, Jan 1: A school girl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Bara Khudra village in Bagherpara Upazila on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Shankari Biswas, 15, daughter of Debu Biswas, a resident of Bara Khudra village. Officer-in-charge of Bagherpara Police Station Anisur Rahman said Shankari returned home from the school on Saturday afternoon and hanged herself with the ceiling of her room. Hearing the scream of the Shankari's family members, neighbours rescued her and sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.      — UNB
RU first year Hons classes to begin Jan 17
RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Jan 01: The first year honours classes under the academic session 2016-2017 of Rajshahi University (RU) will begin on January 17, said a press release issued by Prof Mosiur Rahman, administrator of university Public Relation office. Although the class was scheduled to be held on January 01, it has been reshuffled as the process of admission dateline increased till January 03.             — RU Correspondent
Habiganj clash leaves 50 injured
HABIGANJ, Jan 01: At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Sujatpur village under Baniachong upazila of the district today. Police said the clash broke out in the morning between two rival groups of villagers over establishing supremacy in the area. Of the injured, two were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Others wounded were sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital and different local hospitals. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Mujibur Rahman, in-charge of Sujatpur Police Camp.     — BSS
