Syed Mohammad elected President of AmCham

Syed Mohammad Kamal, Vice President of Mastercard Bangladesh, has been elected President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) for the 2026-2028 term.
Ala Uddin Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Bangladesh, has been elected Vice President, while Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud, Managing Director of Philip Morris International Bangladesh, will serve as Treasurer.
The chamber on Sunday marked the installation of its new Executive Committee at a city hotel, celebrating what it described as a new chapter of leadership aimed at strengthening US-Bangladesh business relation, reveals a press release.
The event was attended by AmCham members, senior government officials, representatives of the US Embassy in Dhaka and other diplomatic missions, chamber leaders, corporate executives, policy experts, development partners and media professionals.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen expressed confidence in the new leadership and reiterated support for AmCham's role in advancing bilateral economic engagement.
The Executive Committee also includes Al-Mamun M. Rashel, Managing Director of NATco Bangladesh Ltd.; Habib Bhuiyan, Country Manager of Excelerate Energy Bangladesh; Sazzad Hossain, General Manager of Avery Dennison Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; and Ataur Rahim Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of ShopUp Bangladesh.
Syed Mohammad Kamal brings around 35 years of leadership experience across financial services, FMCG, remittances and digital payments. He previously held senior positions at Western Union, Berger Paints Bangladesh, and ACI Limited, and has also served as Vice President of AmCham Bangladesh.
Ala Uddin Ahmad has over 25 years of leadership experience across Asia, with a track record in policy advocacy and trade facilitation, focusing on aligning global investor interests with Bangladesh's economic landscape.
Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud has more than 22 years of experience in finance, strategy and public affairs, having held leadership roles at DHL Express and Banglalink.
Outgoing President Syed Ershad Ahmed, in his farewell remarks, highlighted the institutional progress made during his tenure. The newly-elected leadership acknowledged his contribution and expressed appreciation for the outgoing committee's service.
