'Talent Partnership' launched to address challenges in EU labour market

A new project 'Talent Partnership' was launched on Wednesday aiming to address gaps in skills, increase employment opportunities for Bangladeshis in the EU labour market and ensure fair recruitment and workers' safety.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment (MoEWOE) and the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) will implement together the three-year EU funded project worth euro 3.0 million, according to a statement.
Focusing on dignified migration with safety and rights protected, the project will help upskill 3,000 workers, meeting EU standards.
Over 7.4 million Bangladeshi migrant workers contributes to the country's economy worth euro 2 billion each month, added the statement.
In addition, the project will strengthen the MoEWOE online job-matching platform to improve access to employment opportunities for skilled job seekers.
Acknowledging the importance of addressing challenges encountered by potential overseas workers, Dr. Asif Nazrul Adviser for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, said "this project will ensure safety of workers while boosting remittance for Bangladesh."
Tuomo Poutiainen, ILO Country Director underscored the impact of the project on skill development, stating that it would facilitate 'technical upskilling' and 'fair recruitment'.
Michael Miller, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, observed "The EU-Bangladesh Talent Partnership has been designed to be transformative and win-win."
