Two BNP leaders have been arrested in Lakshmipur's Raipur in connection with multiple cases of assault, looting and fraud, police said, reports bdnews24.com.
Police arrested them on Wednesday and produced in court on Thursday afternoon, following four separate arrest warrants issued against them, Raipur Police chief Shahin Mia said.
The arrestees are Kabir Sarker, organisational secretary of Uttar Charbanshi union BNP, and GM Shamim, member secretary of the Upazila Krishak Dal.
"Members of law enforcement arrested Kabir Sarker and Shamim from their homes in Uttar Charbanshi on Wednesday night," Shahin said.
The officer added that both are also named in a case related to the killing of a BNP leader during a clash over local dominance on April 8 last year, though they are currently out on bail in that matter.
"There were four separate arrest warrants against the two in cases concerning assault, looting and fraud. They were arrested based on those warrants," he added.
