Afzal shares points in GM Chess

Kazi M Mahbub Afzal split points with Dahale Atul of India while Abul Kashem lost to Soham Datar of India in the 5th round games of the 10th Chennai Open International Grandmasters Chess tournament now being held in Chennai, India, reports BSS.

After the 5th round, Afzal earned 2.5 points while Abul Kashem bagged 1.5 points out 5 games held Sunday.

A total of 267 players from 22 countries including 16 grandmasters, 19 International Masters and 2 Women International Masters are participating in the event.

On the other hand, the Begum Laila Alam 9th Open FIDE Rating Chess tournament will begin on February 1 at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall room in the city.

Organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation and sponsored by former chess player Begum Laila Alam, the event is open for all female players.

Players have been asked to enroll their names with entry fee on or before January 31.

The event will be held in 7 round Swiss-League system and cash prize of Taka 65,000 will be given to the winners.
