CHATTOGRAM, June 27 (UNB): Hosts Bangladesh A team were trailing by 405 runs with eight wickets in hand against touring Sri Lanka A team after the second day of the four-day first unofficial Test match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Wednesday. The second string Sri Lankan team resumed the first innings in the morning with their overnight total of 170 for 4 in 60.2 overs and piled up a huge total of 449 runs for 8 (declared) in 131.1 overs featuring two good partnerships in the 5th and 6th wicket stands.
The 28-year-old one down batsman, Lahiru Thirimanne, who shared 85 runs with captain FDM Karunaratne in the second wicket stand on the first day (Tuesday), contributed 156 runs with number six Charith Asalanka in the 5th wicket stand and scored another 119 runs with S Ashan in the 6th wicket partnership on Wednesday to guide the team towards a mammoth total.
Lahiru Thirimanne, who was in batting with 66 runs, hammered a polished innings of 168 runs off 339 balls hitting 14 fours and 02 sixes, Charith Asalanka (12) contributed 90 runs off 155 deliveries featuring 13 fours while number seven S Ashan scored 97-ball 70 runs with the help of eight fours and one six. NT Gamage made 19-ball 20 runs, including five boundaries.
Right arm medium pacer Khaled Ahmed, who grabbed three wickets in the first day (Tuesday), finally claimed four Lankan wickets for 92 runs, Abu Hider grabbed two for 69 while Nazmul Isloam took one for 73.
In reply, the 2nd string Bangladesh team opened the first innings and were struggling at 44 for 02 in 17 overs with veteran Tushar Imran and captain Mosaddek Hossain in batting on 12 and 08 runs respectively after the dismissal of national opener Soumya Sarkar (21) and Shadman Islam (1).
Charith Asalanka and NT Gamage took one wicket each conceding 10 and 13 runs respectively.
