Bangladesh face hosts Lanka today

September 21, 2025 00:00:00

Bangladesh U-17 National Football Team will take on host Sri Lanka in their ultimate group match of the SAFF U-17 Championship scheduled to be held at Racecourse ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka today (Sunday), reports BSS.

The match kicks off at 7.30 pm Bangladesh time.

Bangladesh stand top of the table with a win against Nepal and they need only a draw against Sri Lanka to secure the spot of semifinal. If Bangladesh is able to beat Sri Lanka, then they will emerge as group A champions.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka remained bottom of the table without any point playing one match. They lost to Nepal by 2-0 goals in their tournament opening match and the Islanders must have to beat Bangladesh with a better goal difference to secure the last four spot.

A defeat will make them out from the tournament race. In this case Nepal and Bangladesh will go to the semifinals. Seven South Asian nations-- Bangladesh, defending champions India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and host Sri Lanka--, split into two groups, are competing in the regional tournament.

The top two teams from each group will play the cross semifinals on September 25 while the final of the championship is slated for Sept 27.
