Bangladesh face Oman in 2nd semifinal today

Four-time champions Bangladesh will play their Oman in the 2nd semifinal of the 10-team Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Cup at CBK Hockey Field in Jakarta today (Friday), reports UNB.

The match will kick off at 6pm (Bangladesh time )

Pool A champions Chinese Taipei will play Pool B runners up Kazakhstan in the first semifinal also today (Friday) at 3:45 pm at the same venue.

Bangladesh smartly qualified for the semifinal from Pool B with all-win record securing full 12 points from straight four matches while Kazakhstan reached semifinal as the Pool B runners up collecting seven points from all four group outings.

Bangladesh team made a flying start in the ongoing AHF Cup outplaying Kazakstan by 5-1 goals in the opening match, defeated hosts Indonesia by 3-2 goals in the 2nd match, beat Thailand by 2-1 goals in the 3rd match and crushed Sri Lanka by 5-0 goals in the 4th and last group match.

On the other hand, both the Chinese Taipei and Oman finished all of their four Pool A engagements with unbeaten record securing 10 points each, But, Chinese Taipei emerged group champions by virtue better goal difference (19-7) than Oman (14-8).

Apart from semifinals, Hong Kong will Sri Lanka at 11;15 am while Thailand will play Uzbekistan at 1:30 pm also today (Friday) in the 5th to 8th place deciding classification matches.

Top two teams of the 10-team AHF Cup Hockey will qualify for the final round of the eight-team Men's Asia Cup Hockey billed for the Indian city of Rajgir, Bihar from August 27 to September 7 next.
