Marathon races has been held in different districts across the country on Friday to commemorate July Uprising Day, reports BSS.
In Jhenaidah, the marathon was jointly organised by the district administration and the Department of Youth Development.
The race started in the morning in front of the Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner's office with the participation of nearly two hundred runners.
The participants covered a three-kilometer route that passed through Circuit House, Gitanjali, and Hosne Shaheed Suhrawardy roads in the city before concluding at Bir Shrestha Hamidur Rahman Stadium.
Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Awal, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Hosne Ara, Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila Health Complex Health and Family Planning Officer Mithila Islam, District BNP General Secretary Zahiduzzaman Mona, and District Sports Officer Md. Mizanur Rahman, among others, were present.
Md. Ashiqur Rahman secured first place among the boys, while Nadia won first place among the girls.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdul Awal distributed the prizes among the winners.
In Manikganj, a mini marathon was held under the auspices of Manikganj District Administration.
The marathon, a long-distance foot race, started from Paloma Government Primary School premises and ended at the Manikganj Government High School playground after crossing six kilometers. The people of all walks of lives including the students of different schools and colleges and the sports personalities.
A total of 38 male and two female took part in the long-distance foot race.
After completion of the event, certificates and medals were distributed among the winners.
In the male group, Polash Sheikh received the First prize while Shrikanto Haldar received second prize, Ashiqur Rahman got the third prize and Amir Hamza and Md. Arzu received the fourth and fifth prize respectively.
In the female group, Liza Aktar received the champion prize.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Manwar Hossein Malla was present in the prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Manikganj District Council Mehedi Hasan, ADC (Gen) Atiqul Mamun, ADC (Rev) Mohammad Ali, ADC (Educational and ICT) Mohammad Nazmul Hasan Khan, District Sports Officer Ferdousy Akhtar, Deputy Director of Youth Development Department Aloka Prova, Manikganj Press Club General Secretary Shahanur Islam and Manikganj District Scouts Secretary Sarkar Masud, among others, were present on the occasion.
In Bhola, the symbolic mini marathon was officially inaugurated by Bhola Deputy Commissioner Md. Azad Jahan.
Nearly 50 participants from the family members of martyrs, injured fighters and people from different classes and professions took part in the three kilometer long race.
Competitors from different areas gathered in front of the district administration office since early morning. After completing registration, this symbolic mini marathon started at 9 am from the Chowmuhani area of the municipal town and ended at the District Administrator Office.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Md. Azad Jahan handed over the crests to the participants.
According to the organisers and participants, this exceptional event was organised to commemorate the historic July Movement held last year. They said that such an event would inspire them in the struggle of the future.
In Tangail, a five-kilometer symbolic marathon was held.
Deputy Commissioner (administration) Shorifa Haque formally inaugurated the race by releasing balloons in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office here.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional District Magistrate Mahbub Hasan, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Nahida Akhter, government and private officials from various departments, July protesters and members of the martyrs' families were present there.
