Bashundhara continue winning run, Dhaka Abahani lose points

Star-studded Bashundhara Kings continued their winning run as they dumped Chittagong Abahani Limited by 5-0 goals while Abahani Limited, Dhaka, lost valuable points as they were forced to play a 1-1 goal draw by new comers Swadhinata Krira Sangha in their TVS Bangladesh Premier League Football held on Friday, reports BSS.

With the day's win, Bashundhara Kings raised their tally to 21 points from eight matches while the port city team Chittagong Abahani Limited remained at their previous credit of 12 points playing the same number of matches.

In the day's match, Brazilian forward Robson scored a brace while forward Sumon Reza, midfielder Mohammad Ibrahim and forward Eleta Kingsley supported him with a lone goal each for Kings in the one-sided affairs. The winners led the first half by 4-0 goals.

Sumon opened an account scoring the first goal for Kings in the 17th minute while Robson doubled the lead scoring the second goal for Kings in the 28th minute of the match.

Ibrahim further widened the team's margin scoring the third goal for Kings in the 32nd minute while Robson scored his second and fourth goal for Kings in the 43rd minute of the match.

After the breather, Eleta Kingsley joined the Bashundhara's party as he completed the tally scoring the fifth goal for Kings in the 67th minute of the match.

The defending champions Bashundhara Kings clearly dominated the entire proceeding and notched their deserving victory on the day while Chittagong Abahani Limited, who suffered their second defeat in the ongoing league, were totally off-coloured as they failed to create any real scoring chance.

Bashundhara Kings will play their next match against Saif Sporting Club on Wednesday while Chittagong Abahani Limited will meet Uttar Baridhara Club the following day at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj.

Meanwhile, With the day's outcome, Abahani Limited, remained second position in the league table with 17 points from eight matches while Swadhinata Krira Sangha bagged five points playing the same number of matches.

In the Friday's match, forward Nabib Newaj Jibon put Abahani Limited ahead in the 39th minute while after the breather Swadhinata Krira Sangha staged a brilliant fight back in the match when striker Ekbal Hussain restored the parity in the 80th minute of the match.

Abahani Limited, however, tried to take the lead, but could not convert any in the remaining proceeding and finally they had to leave the field sharing one point with Swadhinata Krira Sangha, who showed good brand of football in the whole proceeding.

Abahani Limited will play their next match against Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on Wednesday while Swadhinata Krira Sangha will meet old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society on March 18.

Today's (Saturday's) matches: Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited vs Uttar Baridhara Club at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Munshiganj, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra vs Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra at Bashundhara Sports Complex , Dhaka and Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society vs Bangladesh Police Football Club at Sylhet District Stadium in Sylhet. All the matches will kick off at 3.30pm.
