Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on Tuesday that they have decided to increase the salary of the national contracted women cricketers in the coming days, reports Cricbuzz.

BCB women's wing chairman Nadel Chowdhury told the sports online portal on Tuesday that they have proposed to the board to increase international match fees of the women cricketers along with the salary raise.

The decision will certainly act as a breath of fresh air in the women's cricket fraternity considering they receive very minimal fees compared to their male counterparts.

While men cricketers receive Tk0.6 million (six lakh) as match fee for Test along with Tk0.3 and 0.2 million for ODIs and T20s, their female counterpart receive USD 100 [approximately BDT 8500] as international match fees for featuring in ODIs, while it goes down to USD 75 for T20s.

BCB women committee chairman ShafiulAlam did not shy away from accepting reality by admitting that it is not possible to increase their match fees like the male counterparts.

''You have to understand that there is a big difference between men and women's cricket and we have to admit it. We cannot increase the match fees of women's cricketers in par with their male counterpart,'' said Nadel.

''I agree the amount they what they receive as international match fees [100 USD] is very minimal in the present context and so we have proposed to increase that to USD 400,'' he said.

Shafiul also informed that women's wing have proposed the board to increase number of contracted cricketers as well as raise their salary by 10 to 20 percent in the upcoming days.

"It's true with this salary certainly women cricketers find hard to survive but we cannot make drastic change overnight and we are gradually trying to come forward with different initiative."

BCB has given national contracts to 20 women cricketers and they are divided into four categories with different salary caps - BDT 50000(A category), BDT 40000 (B category), BDT 30000 (C category) and BDT 20000(D category).
