Gono University (Gono Bishwabidyalay) clinched the men's football title of the Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champs '2019, reports UNB.

They beat Fareast International University by 4-3 goals in the sudden death session of tie-breaker at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city on Saturday.

The final between the two teams ended in 1-1 draw in stipulated 60 minutes that led to direct tie-breaker. The match was again locked in 3-3 goals after five shots in the tie-breaker and finally settled the fate of the match through the sudden death session.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina witnessed the final as the chief guest and later she distributed trophies alongside other prizes.

After a barren first half, Ushain Marma put Fareast University ahead in the 22nd minute of the 2nd half by a placing shot beating the opponent custodian (1-0).

Fareast University got a golden opportunity to widen the margin just six minutes later, but Ushain Marma spoiled the chance as his penalty kick returned to play hitting the side post.

Finally, Zakir Hossain revived Gono University's pride scoring the equaliser in the stoppage of the match by a placing shot after entering the danger zone by his lone effort (1-1). Shamim Hossain of Gono Bishwabidyalay was adjudged the best player of the match.
