Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has said the government has taken an initiative to set up synthetic pitches at 100 schools across the country to popularise cricket and make the game accessible at the local level, reports BSS.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, the adviser said decentralisation of cricket is a crucial step for the overall development of the sport in this cricket-loving country. "That's why the Ministry of Youth and Sports has taken an initiative to install synthetic pitches at 100 schools throughout the country," he wrote.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President announced plans to launch four mini BCB in four regions of the country, marking the 25th anniversary of Bangladesh's Test status.

In another post, the adviser said the initiative will take cricket to the grassroots level.

"The dream of nurturing cricketers from the grassroots and spreading the game through decentralisation will begin here," he added.
