The much-talked-about election of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) will be held in a changed venue today (Monday), reports UNB.

Voting in the election will be at Sultana Kamal Women's Sports Complex in Dhanmondi instead of the National Sports Council from 10am to 3pm.

The election commission shifted the polling venue on Sunday, just a day before the election to ensure a 'free and fair' election.

Election Commissioner and NSC Director (Sports) Shah Alam Sarder on Sunday said, "The commission has decided to shift the polling centre to Sultana Kamal Women's Sports Complex in Dhanmondi from the National Sports Council to hold the election in a free, fair and meaningful manner."

He said, "All the candidates and councillors would be informed of the decision by today (Sunday). We hope they'll spontaneously participate in the election," Shah Alam added.

Two panels -- one led by outgoing general secretary of the federation and captain of the country's first hockey team Abdus Sadeque and the other led by chairman of Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club Hockey Committee AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed -- are competing in the Hockey Federation election.

Meanwhile, Sayeed expressed his dissatisfaction over the shifting of the polling venue and described the decision as an 'ugly game'. "However, we'll remain in the election race," he said while addressing a press briefing at a city hotel.

Sadeque said the commission should have announced the decision much earlier. "However, we'll abide by the decision."

A total of 84 councillors, including Shishu Kishore Sangha's Tareq Ahmed Adil, will be able to exercise their franchise in the election.

A total of 55 candidates will compete against 28 posts of the federation executive committee, including five vice-presidents, one general secretary, two joint secretaries, one treasurer and 19 EC members.
