Lost tradition of Rangpur's cricket arena will be brought back

Says BCB chief

RANGPUR, June 28 (BSS): Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Md Aminul Islam Bulbul has said that renowned cricketers from Rangpur have contributed to the national team in the past and are still working.

"In that continuity, the lost tradition of Rangpur's cricket arena will be brought back. The BCB is in the process of establishing an international-standard cricket stadium and a venue for premier leagues, including age-based ones, in Rangpur division," he said.

The BCB president said this at the inauguration ceremony of the day-long festival on the 25th anniversary of Bangladesh achieving Test Cricket status at the Rangpur Cricket Ground on Saturday as the chief guest.

Aminul Islam Bulbul said that the cricket arena of Bangladesh is very rich. Bangladesh's ranking is very high in all formats of Test, ODI and T20. Bangladesh's position at the top level is very much a matter of time.

"Some steps have been taken to improve the quality of play of future cricketers. That is why our visiting to the divisional city. We are working to increase the number of playgrounds, stadiums, practice pitches and, above all, cricket spectators," he said.

Talented cricketers will be brought out through regional cricket games and hunt competitions. In addition, 100 cricket pitches will be built across the country to bring the remaining fields under the umbrella of the game.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (revenue) Md Asraful Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramiz Alam, BCB President's Advisor Abid Hasan Sami, Bangladesh women's cricket captain Nigar Sultana, former national team cricketer Md Nasir Hossain, among others, spoke at the event.
