Manjot remanded in LPL corruption case

Former India Under-19 cricketer and Jaffna Kings co-owner Manjot Kalra was remanded in custody until July 31 by a Colombo court, a day after his arrest in an alleged corruption case linked to the 2026 Lanka Premier League (LPL), reports Cricbuzz.

According to local media reports of the court proceedings, police told the court that Kalra had allegedly approached Sri Lankan players Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dunith Wellalage and Avishka Fernando with an offer of more than US$30,000 to influence matches in the LPL.

Kalra's lawyers have denied the allegations. The court ordered that he remain in custody until July 31 as investigations continue.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has said it is extending its full cooperation to the country's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which arrested Kalra on July 16, hours before the opening match of LPL 2026.
