Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza mentioned that he is not ruling out the possibility of making a Test comeback given his recent fitness. Mortaza's Test career was cut short by numerous injuries and the several surgeries that he underwent on both his two knees forced him to take only limited workload, reports Cricbuzz.
However, in the recent past, his fitness has been quite stable and has helped him to prop his fitness level to another degree as he gets ready to increase his workload.
Mortaza, who last played a Test in 2009, is harboring hopes of bowling in whites and while he conceded that it is too early to say anything specific, he is still not ruling out the possibility altogether.
"Every player has the passion to play Test cricket. Though I am 34 now, I still have that desire to bowl in white dress. Basically I have to take everything into consideration," Mashrafe told the sports news portal on Saturday.
"So it is difficult to specify when I can make the comeback but surely I will try making an attempt if everything goes according to plan.
"I have made substantial amount of progress in my fitness and that is giving me the ray of hope. Now I want to improve on that fitness and see where it stands," the 34-year-old added.
"Now if I can develop my fitness and after playing first-class cricket I can make significant amount of progress, then why not make a Test comeback."
The sports news portal has learnt that Mortaza was asked by the BCB President Nazmul Hasan if he is still considering playing Test cricket during a recent board meeting, that also had the other captains and the team management ahead of the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.
