Bangladesh pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana became the ninth bowler to claim a hat-trick in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament, report agencies.
Playing for Noakhali Express, the pacer achieved the feat against Sylhet Titans at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Saturday.
At the start, Mehedi Hasan Rana conceded 5 runs off his first three deliveries, but what followed, completely changed the momentum of the game and electrified the crowd.
His record came in the 18th over. On the fourth ball of the over, Rana struck a major blow by dismissing Sylhet Titans skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz, breaking a key partnership. He followed it up with another sharp delivery that trapped Nasum Ahmed leg-before wicket on the fifth ball.
With the field buzzing and expectations rising, Mehedi Hasan Rana completed a sensational hat-trick on the final ball of the over by removing Khaled Ahmed, who was tempted into playing a big shot but ended up finding the fielder.
However, despite his stellar feat, Noakhali suffered a heartbreaking one-wicket defeat to Sylhet.
Mehedi Rana, however, is the fifth Bangladesh bowler to enter into the exclusive club, which was opened by Pakistan first bowler Mohammad Sami in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2012.
Pacer Al-Amin Hossain was the first Bangladesh bowler to claim a BPL hat-trick in 2015. Later, offspinner Aliss Al Islam, pacers Mrittunjoy Chowdhury and Shoriful Islam followed him before Mehedi Rana.
