Metro, Rangpur stay unbeaten in NCL T20

Tamim blitz not enough to seal Chattogram victory Jishan helps Sylhet snap losing streak

Dhaka Metro continued its winning streak by securing a 19-run victory over Dhaka Division in their fourth match of the NCL T20 at Sylhet Academy Ground in Sylhet on Sunday, reports BSS.

Skipper Naim Sheikh was instrumental in the victory yet again as he struck 69 off 54 with eight fours and one six to steer the side to a challenging 190-7.

Shamsur Rahman Shuvo complemented Naim's knock with 22 ball-43, a knock designed with four fours and two sixes. Medium pacer Anisul Islam then took the onus to defend the total as Rangpur got a rapid start through Rony Talukdar and Ariful Islam. Anisul ended with 4-38 to help Metro hold Dhaka back to 171-8.

In another match, Tanbir Hyder and Akbar Ali hammered two useful knocks as Rangpur romped to a fourth straight victory by cruising to a seven-wicket victory over Rajshahi Division at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Sunday.

The victory put Rangpur in the top spot of NCL T20 tournament with eight points from four matches. Dhaka Metro also have same points but based on net-run-rate, they are in the second spot now.Put into bat first, Rajshahi were restricted to 189-8, thanks to Sabbir Hosan's 52 ball-73 [not out], an innings laced with seven fours and two sixes. Golam Kibira scored a rapid 38 off 15 while Habibur Rahman hammered 18 ball-30.

Alauddin Babu and Chowdhury M Rizwan claimed three wickets apiece for Rangpur.

Tanbir Hyder and Akbar then guided Rangpur to the victory as they chased down the big target with balls to spare, by totaling 194-3. Tanbir who opened the innings blasted 71 off 45 with eight fours and two sixes before Akbar signed off the game with blistering 29 ball-68 (not out).

Akbar clobbered four fours and six sixes.

In another match, Tamim Iqbal dazzled yet again, this with a blazing 54 ball-91 but that terrific knock was not enough as Chattogram conceded a five-wicket defeat to Barishal Division in their fourth match of the NCL T20 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Chattogram put up a handsome 182-7, thanks to Tamim blitz but Barishal overhauled the target, rather comfortably with 185-5.

Tamim who struck seven fours and six sixes in his superb knock was in fact the lone warrior from the side while other gave him little support. The next best was his fellow opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 22. Mehedi Hasan, however, took 3-22 for Barishal, which rode on completely team performance unlike Chattogram to grab a crucial victory.

Meanwhile, Opener Jishan Alam smashed a whirlwind 48 ball-73 as Sylhet Division ended its losing streak in the ongoing NCL T20 with a six-wicket victory over Khulna at Sylhet Academy Ground on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Khulna were restricted to 144-7 with captain Nurul Hasan Sohan striking 34 ball-48 [not out] to help the side edge closer to 150-run- mark after a shaky start that saw them six down for 77 runs in 13th over.

Ebadot Hossain and Nabil Samad took two wickets apiece for Sylhet.
