Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz on Sunday said that the Bangladesh Cricket Board will have an added focus on bringing a balance between the domestic calendar and international commitments, report agencies.
Bangladesh suffered in the Champions Trophy due to lack of preparation as they came into the tournament on the back of the Bangladesh Premier League while the other countries were involved in bilateral series'.
A similar situation is prevailing ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe
as the national cricketers are playing the Dhaka Premier League, the country's traditional list A tournament, rather than playing red ball cricket.
"The schedule (international and domestic) is done before and you cannot change the calendar all of a sudden and it is followed by the same way for quite some time now. You have to adjust and play BPL, DPL and international cricket," Miraz, who is featuring for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League, told reporters on Sunday when his attention was drawn regarding the preparation for Zimbabwe series with white-ball cricket.
"Later, board can think over keeping a balance between international and domestic cricket like in the coming days we have this tournament (series or international tournaments) and we will play this tournament (a tournament similar to the format national team will be playing the international cricket). I think now who are in charge can think over it (how to bring a balance between domestic and local tournament)," he said.
Miraz added that he doesn't feel they will face lot of problem changing to red-ball cricket from white-ball cricket as they will a have a
10-day camp.
"Look we are playing in the DPL for quite some time and though this is one-day tournament it is quite similar to Test, it is not T20 that we will come and hit," said Miraz.
"We will get 10 days before the Test and we hope to prepare us during this time. Before the Test we will possibly have a two-day practice game at Sylhet though I am not aware but team management will decide or we can have a match scenario practice. But I feel 10 days is a lot of time to prepare," he said.
Though Miraz insisted that they will have 10 days to prepare, in reality it will not be the case as two leading DPL clubs Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited have formally requested the board to allow their players to complete the first phase of the ongoing DPL
before joining the national team camp in Sylhet.
Arch-rivals Abahani and MSC will lock horn on April 12 and as a result their players will join the camp after the game. This suggests that a bulk number of local cricketers will play the opening Test on the back of six day training in red-ball.
Meanwhile, Miraz refused to take Zimbabwe lightly, saying that in International cricket, 'there is nothing like big or small team.'
Zimbabwe
will arrive in Bangladesh on April 15 for two-match Test series, which will be Bangladesh's first assignment in longer version format after almost five months.
"International matches are always difficult. There is nothing like big teams or small teams," Miraz said here today. "
If you perform here, you will get international recognition."
Zimbabwe are the only team against whom Bangladesh won more matches than lost in the Test format. They won eight and lost seven in 18 meeting against Zimbabwe.
