Right-arm pacer Shafiul Islam bagged five wickets in a List-A game for the first time in his career to help Mohammedan Sporting Club defeat Gazi Group Cricketers on Saturday, reports UNB.
Gazi, sent to bat first, posted 182 at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) grounds in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL).
Mohammedan chased it down (183/7) with three wickets in hand in 45.2 overs with the help of captain Raqibul Hasan's unbeaten 82.
Gazi bowlers dominated the match initially, taking five wickets in 51 runs. Mohammedan lost the first wicket in 25 runs when Abdul Mazid (13) fell to Ruhel Ahmed. Mohammad Ashraful, the former Bangladesh captain, came in at number three but suffered a golden duck.
After losing Mazid and Ashraful in successive deliveries, Mohammedan lost the wickets of Avishek Mitra (24) and Irfat Shukkur (0) on 48 in two consecutive deliveries. Shafiul was adjudged as the man of the match.
Meanwhile, Prime Bank Cricket Club and Prime Doleshwar Sporting earned victories in their respective matches of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL) at different venues on Saturday.
Prime Bank beat Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity by two wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium while Prime Doleshwar outplayed Shinepukur Cricket Club by nine wickets at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah. Shinepukur set a target of 176 for Prime Doleshwar in Fatullah in 47.1 over, which Doleshwar chased down in 32.5 overs.
While chasing, Doleshwar lost the wicket of Shykat Ali in 57 runs. But they managed to score the remaining runs without losing any wicket. Saif Hassan and Farhad Hossain remained unbeaten on 60 and 40 respectively.
Earlier, Shinepukur tumbled for 175 all-out in 47.1 overs. Most of their batsmen failed to capitalise a good start. They lost the first wicket in six runs when opener Suhrawardi Shuvo fell prey to Arafat Sunny for five.
In the second wicket stand, they posted 42 runs. Sabbir Hossain was the second man to get dismissed for Shinepukur. He scored 31 runs off 31 balls.
Towhid Hridoy and Delwar Hossain were the other batsmen to post more than 30 runs. Towhid posted 33 while Delwar scored 40 coming to bat at number eight. Farhad Reza, the best all-rounder of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League T20, took three wickets for Prime Doleshwar while Arafat Sunny bagged two wickets for them.
In the other match, Khelaghar posted 195 all-out while batting first against Prime Bank, who chased it in 47 overs (196/8).
