Mohun Bagan make good comeback beating Sports Club

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 23 (UNB): Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan Athletic Club made a good comeback in their second match of the eight-team Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football Tournament beating defending champions TC Sports Club of the Maldives by 2-0 goals at MA Aziz Stadium here on Wednesday.

The Indian traditional soccer club made a frustrating start losing to Young Elephants Football Club of Laos by 1-2 goals on Sunday while it was the 2nd successive defeat for defending champions TC Sports Club, who suffered a huge 1-4 goals defeat against former champions and hosts Chattogram Abahani Ltd on Saturday.

In the day's match, Trinidad and Tobago defender Daneil Cyrus and Spanish striker Salvador Perez Marinez scored one goal each for Mohun Bagan.

Mohun Bagan, who came with a new line-up on the day, put pressure over TC Sports Club from the very beginning of the match.

In the very 3rd minute, Daneil Cyrus put the Indian giants ahead by a right-footed close-range shot from inside the box, off a Spanish forward Julen Colinas cross (1-0).

They continued their domination throughout the first half and created several close chances with their attacking football.

In the 20th minute, Mohun Bagan midfielder Shilton Sydney D'Silva could double the margin but his long-range shot unfortunately hit the side bar while TC Sports Club goalkeeper Ibrahim Nadheem Adam smartly denied a close header of forward Julen Colinas in the 26th minute.

Mohun Bagan continued their attacking football from the very beginning of the second half and created several more close chances.

In the 64th minute, Spanish striker Salvador Perez Marinez doubled the margin for the Mohun Bagan by low-range right-footed shot from the danger zone, utilising a pass from his compatriot Julen Colinas (2-0).

Francisco Morante, Dhanachandra Singh and Shilton Sydney D'Silva of Mohun Bagan AC and Ibrahim Safraz of TC Sports Club were cautioned with yellow cards in the match.
