MSC defeat Kalabagan, Sk Jamal ensure super six berth

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club completed their first phase engagements of the Walton Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League beating Kalabagan KC by two wickets at the BKSP ground at Savar on Tuesday, reports UNB.

Despite the day's victory, traditional Mohammedan SC missed the super league berth narrowly securing eleven points from as many matches.

Winning the toss, Kalabagan Krira Chakra batted first and were all out for a moderate 260 runs in 47.5 overs, despite a century by former national skipper Mohammad Ashraful.

One down Ashraful scored his 3rd century in the league hammering a polished 127 runs off 124 balls featuring 13 fours and three sixes, opener Waliul Karim scored 51-ball 46 runs with two fours and four sixes while skipper Mahmudul Hasan contributed 54-ball 33 runs including a boundary.

Qazi Onik made the major damage in Kalabagan innings capturing six wickets for 49 runs to be adjudged man of the match while Mohammad Azim took two for 49 runs.

In reply, Dhaka Mohammedan SC reached their target scoring 263 runs for 8 in 49.2 overs with Enamul Haque Junior scoring 79-ball 57 runs, featuring five fours and three sixes.

Besides, one down Rony Talukder (51), skipper Shamsur Rahman (38), Taijul Islam (not out 34), Gurinder Singh (20) and Qazi Onik (not out 15) were the other main contributors for Mohammedan SC reaching the double digit.

Sanjit Saha picked up three wickets for 48 runs while Nahid Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan took two wickets each giving away 38 and 52 runs respectively.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club booked a seat for the six-team super league of the Walton Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League outplaying Brothers Union Club by 74 runs at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatullah on Tuesday.

With the feat, Sheikh Jamal DC entered the title race securing 12 points from all the 11 first phase matches.

Earlier, five teams-Dhaka Abahani Limited (16 points), Legend of Rupganj (14 pts), Khelaghar SKS (14 pts), Prime Doleshwar SC (13 pts) and Gazi Group Cricketers (12 pts)-confirmed super league berth from 12-team first phase league.

Sent into bat first in the day's match in Fatullah, Sheikh Jamal DC were all out for 184 runs in 47.1 overs with opener Saikat Ali making a half century scoring 55 runs in 74 balls by hitting four fours and three sixes.

Besides, Tanvir Haider (33), Elias Sunny (31), Sachin Baby (10) were the other notable scorers for Sheikh Jamal reaching the double figures.

Khaled Ahmed grabbed three wickets for 41 runs while Shahawat Hossain, Suhrawardy Shuvo and Alok Kapali claimed two wickets each conceding 25, 32 and 39 runs respectively.

Chasing an easy target, Brothers Union Club were bundled out for 110 runs in 39.2 overs with Mysukur Rahman making 27 runs, DB Das 27, Moinuddin Rubel (16) and Alok Kapali (12).

Elias Suuny, who scored 48-ball 31 runs, also grabbed three wickets for 22 runs in his 8.2 overs spell and was adjudged the man of the match.

Shohag Gazi also picked up three wickets for 36 runs and Aby Jayed took two for 22 runs.
