National star Chayan retires from international hockey

Celebrated national hockey player Mamunur Rahman Chayan retired from international hockey after the 5th place-deciding match of the 18th Asian Games Men's Hockey against stronger South Korea at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Hockey field in Jakarta on Saturday, reports UNB.
Bangladesh finished 6th in the 18th Asian Games Men's Hockey after suffering 0-7 goals defeat against the four times champions South Korea on Saturday, but achieved their long-cherished target to play directly in the final round of the Asian Games and Asia Cup Hockey from the next time, avoiding qualifying round.
Chayan, a 30-year old player of Bangladesh Navy, completed his 12-year international career amid a huge reception from his teammates and federation officials after the day's match in Jakarta.
After the match, they gave Chayan a guard of honour by raising their hockey sticks above their heads in an arch after the day's match, and officials of Bangladesh Hockey Federation in Indonesia presented him with crest.
Chayan, who played as a defender and penalty corner specialist, reportedly retired from national team to give adequate time to his family, especially his the three year old son.
