ICC delegation arrives in Bangladesh
ahead of crucial BCB elections
A two-member International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation arrived in Dhaka on Monday (June 1) for meetings with the different stakeholders of Bangladesh Cricket Board ahead of the upcoming election, scheduled on June 7, reports Cricbuzz. ICC confirmed the development though an official release, announcing their representatives' visit to Bangladesh. "Two ICC Board representatives, Dr Mohammed Moosaje (Cricket South Africa) and Tavengwa Mukuhlani (Zimbabwe Cricket), are scheduled to visit Bangladesh to engage with stakeholders regarding the situation in Bangladesh including the BCB electoral process," ICC said in a statement.
Shaun Tait likely to leave
BD coaching role
Bangladesh pace bowling coach Shaun Tait is unlikely to continue with the national set-up, with his availability for the upcoming home series against Australia in serious doubt, reports Cricbuzz. Confirming, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) source said the former Australia fast bowler has already informed the board of his intentions. It remains unclear whether he will arrive on June 3, as scheduled, to join the preparation camp ahead of the Australia series, which comprises three ODIs and three T20Is. Tait, whose contract with the BCB runs until the 2027 ODI World Cup, joined the set-up in May 2025 and enjoyed a successful stint with Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh women's national under-18 field hockey team bounced back from their opening-match defeat to earn a 2-0 victory over Chinese Taipei women's national under-18 field hockey team in their second Pool B match of the Women's U-18 Asia Cup held in Kakamigahara on Monday, reports BSS. After a scoreless first quarter, Kona Akter gave Bangladesh the lead from a penalty corner in the 29th minute. Bangladesh maintained control for much of the contest, and Airin Riya sealed the victory with a field goal in the 55th minute. The win marked a strong response from the young Bangladeshi.
Brazil thrash Panama 6-2
in WC send-off
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, June 1 (AFP): Brazil turned on the style with a 6-2 drubbing of Panama on Sunday in a lopsided World Cup send-off at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr fired the Brazilians into the lead inside the opening minute before Panama grabbed a freak equaliser in the 14th minute. The combination of Vinicius and Casemiro restored Brazil's advantage six minutes before half-time. Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti almost replaced his entire starting line-up at the second half which put Brazil 5-1 up.

TOKYO, June 1 (AFP): Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu backed his team to grind out wins at the World Cup after edging Iceland 1-0 in their final warm-up friendly in Tokyo on Sunday. Substitute Koki Ogawa scored in the 87th minute to send Japan to the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico on a high after a tough night in front of more than 60,000 at the National Stadium. "It was difficult to break Iceland open and they had some dangerous chances on the counter-attack," Moriyasu said.
Vallejo fined $65,000 for sexist
remark about French Open umpire
PARIS, June 1 (Reuters): Paraguayan player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo was fined $65,000 after he suggested women lacked the courage to umpire rowdy crowds following his defeat by a French teenager, tournament director Amelie Mauresmo said on Monday. Vallejo blamed Brazilian referee Ana Carvalho for failing to control the home fans during his second-round loss to France's Moise Kouame, who triumphed 6-3 7-5 3-6 2-6 7-6 (10-8) at a packed Court Suzanne Lenglen.
