PM donates Tk 3.5m for ailing Swadhin Bangla footballer

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has donated Tk 3.5 million (35 lakh) to Swadhin Bangla Football Team player Taslim Sheikh for meeting his treatment costs and other family expenditures, reports UNB.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over on Monday a cheque for the amount to Taslim Sheikh, who has been suffering from various complicated diseases for the last 12 years," PM's Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan said.

He said a newspaper report on the ordeal of Taslim Sheikh, now living in Lalpur of Natore, drew the attention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Later, she asked the deputy commissioner (DC) of Natore to send a detailed report on the condition of the footballer, Khokan said.

As per the directive, he said, the Natore DC placed a report before the Prime Minister recently.

According to the report, Taslim Sheikh has been living in a dilapidated three-room house in Lalpur with his ailing wife, two sons and one daughter.

His wife underwent an open heart surgery a few years back and his elder son is working in Gopalpur Sugar Mills on muster roll.
