President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday congratulated the Bangladesh women's cricket team for emerging as champions of Women's T20 Asia Cup, reports UNB.

Bangladesh women's cricket team outplayed India by three wickets to get the first-ever title of the six-nation Women's T20 Asia Cup at Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday.

In a congratulatory message, the President said: "This is an important victory for Bangladesh cricket. This will further boost the development of Bangladesh cricket."

He wished the women cricket team a continued success.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina greeted the Bangladesh women cricket team for clinching the T20 Asia Cup.

In a message of felicitation, Sheikh Hasina, now in Quebec of Canada to join Outreach Session of the G7 Summit, greeted all the players, coach and officials of the national women cricket team as well as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials concerned.

"The whole nation is proud of seeing the team spirit of our players and their tremendous performance," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the historic success is the outcome of proper patronisation and support to the game by the present government.

The PM expressed the hope that the winning spree of the Bangladesh women cricket team would continue in the future.
