Records for Pakistan

November 13, 2021 00:00:00

DUBAI, Nov 12 (Agencies): Pakistan is a team that is breaking and creating records every day in this World Cup. Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Thursday broke Virat Kohli's record to become the fastest batsman to score 2500 runs in the T20s during his team's semifinal match against Australia in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Babar took 62 innings to reach the landmark while Virat Kohli took 68 innings. They are followed by Australia's Aaron Finch and New Zealand's Martin Guptill with 78 and 83 innings, respectively.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Thursday shattered yet another batting record.

Babar shattered Matthew Hayden's record for the most runs scored by a batsman in his maiden T20 World Cup appearance during the second semifinal between Pakistan and Australia in Dubai.

Hayden, who is Pakistan's batting consultant in this tournament, had set the record 14 years ago by amassing 265 runs in the 2007 World T20 before Babar went past his tally in the first over of Pakistan's innings against Australia after being asked to bat first by Aaron Finch.

The 27-year-old went on to score 39 off 34 balls with 5 boundaries to get the Men in Green off to a solid start. Babar now has 303 runs in this edition from 6 games at an average of 60.60 with four half-centuries, which is also a T20 World Cup record.

He is the first to aggregate over 300 runs in his debut edition of the tournament and the fourth batsman to achieve the feat in a T20 World Cup after Virat Kohli (319 in 2014), Tillakratne Dilshan (317 in 2009) and Mahela Jayawardene (302 in 2010).

Adding another feather to round off his T20 World Cup cap, Azam is also the player to have the most number of fours in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Meanwhile, Babar's teammate Mohammad Rizwan also became the first player in the history of the game to score 1000 T20 runs in a calendar year.

Rizwan managed to achieve the feat in the 20 innings he has so far played this year.

En route his 67, he also broke the record England's Jos Buttler had set for the most runs by a keeper in a Men's T20 World Cup. Buttler, who broke Craig Kieswetter's record from 2010 in this year's edition, had scored 269 runs to his name before England crashed out on Tuesday in the semifinals.

Rizwan now has 281 and is only behind his fellow opener Azam for most runs in this year's T20 World Cup.

Rizwan continued his impressive run in the semi-final with another half-century against Australia. This is his 11th T20I fifty, 3rd of the tournament and 10th half-century in 2021.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan have set a record for the biggest T20 World Cup partnership during Pakistan's semi-final against Australia on Thursday at the Dubai Cricket Stadium.

Both openers have together scored more runs in their partnership in this T20 World Cup than any other batting pair at any T20 World Cup.
