Records galore for Tigers in third West Indies ODI

Bangladesh blazed a hole through West Indies in a 179-run win in the third ODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city on Thursday, completing their first series victory since March last year. Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar put together a scintillating 176-run opening stand which provided the backbone for Bangladesh's 296 for 8. The visitors lasted 30.1 overs, getting bowled out for 117 in reply. The margin of victory also Bangladesh's second largest victory behind 183-run win against Ireland in 2023, report agencies.

Rishad becomes first B'deshi bowler to take 12 wickets in a bilateral ODI series

Rishad Hossain took three wickets to take his series haul to 12, becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler, since 2015, to take more than ten wickets in a bilateral ODI series.

First 100-run plus opening partnership in Mirpur since 2015

The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur saw a 100-run plus opening partnership for the first time since 2015 when Bangladesh's opening pair Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar.

The record itself was the testament of how tougher it was to get going in Mirpur wicket over the years.

Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes was the last pair to add 147 runs at the Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium, considered as the "Home of Cricket" in 2015 during the third ODI against Zimbabwe.

This is also the Bangladesh first 100-run plus opening partnership since 2023, when Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal added 102 runs in a match against Ireland in Sylhet.

Soumya and Saif's 176-run partnership was the second best in the opening stand behind Tamim and Liton Das' 292 against Zimbabwe in Sylhet in 2020.

Soumya, who raised his 14th fifty and sixth against the West Indies was dismissed after hammering 86 ball-91 with seven fours and four sixes. Saif, meanwhile, earned his maiden 50 but like Soumya he also missed out a ton after being out on 80. Saif played 72 balls and smashed six fours and as many sixes.

Bangladesh equal six-hitting record in ODIs

Bangladesh hit 14 sixes against West Indies in the series deciding third match, equaling the effort of smashing most sixes in their ODI history. They also hit same number of sixes against Zimbabwe in 2020 at Sylhet, a match in which Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal shared 292 runs in their opening stand.

This is the highest number of sixes they hit against West Indies, eclipsing their previous 12 sixes in 2024.

Openers Saif Hasan (6) and Soumya Sarkar (4) today hit 10 sixes between them in their 176-run opening stand, which was the side's second best opening partnership behind Tamim and Liton's 292. Soumya struck 86 ball-91 while Saif played a 72 ball-80 run knock.

Najmul Hossain Shanto also hammered three sixes in his 44-run knock while Nurul Hasan Sohan who made 16 not out hit one six, making it 14 for Bangladesh.
