Rubel given BCB farewell after announcing retirement

April 21, 2026 00:00:00

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday ahead of the second ODI against New Zealand gave veteran fast bowler Rubel Hossain a formal send-off following his retirement from international cricket, according to Cricbuzz.

Rubel's former teammates gathered at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city to mark his retirement from international cricket that turned out to be an emotional affair when he walked to the middle of the ground accompanied by his young son.

He is fortunate to receive some kind of recognition from the BCB after announcing his retirement, a trend not very common in this part of the world.

Taking history into consideration, it was quite surprising to see the BCB announcing that they will be honoring Rubel.

The right-arm pacer had last represented Bangladesh at the international level in 2021 and last week, he formally announced his retirement from international cricket through a post on social media. The BCB organised the pre-match ceremony with current players in attendance.
