Shahid Afridi demands payment from BPL franchise

March 04, 2025 00:00:00

Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi has approached the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after not receiving the full payment for his role as a goodwill ambassador and mentor for the Chittagong Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), according to Pakistan's leading news site propakistani.pk.

The BPL has been under public scrutiny for a while. Recently, three Pakistani left the league over non-payment dispute, and now one of the franchise's goodwill ambassadors, Shahid Afridi is facing a similar issue. Despite repeated attempts to contact the team's management, Afridi has received no response, prompting him to escalate the matter.

Afridi has reportedly emailed BCB President Farooq Ahmed, seeking intervention to resolve the issue. In his email, Afridi expressed his frustration over the lack of communication from the Chittagong Kings' management and urged the BCB to step in and ensure that his dues are cleared.

The former all-rounder has made it clear that if the matter is not resolved through the BCB, he is prepared to take further action. Afridi stated that he would write to the heads of both Pakistan and Bangladesh if necessary to address the situation.

Afridi's involvement with the Chittagong Kings was seen as a significant move to strengthen ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh cricket. His role as a goodwill ambassador and mentor was aimed at promoting the league and inspiring young players. However, the unresolved payment issue has cast a shadow over his association with the team. The BCB has yet to issue an official response to Afridi's email, but the matter has raised questions about the accountability and professionalism of franchise management in the BPL.
