Steve Smith set to miss rest of BPL

Elbow surgery to delay his int’l comeback

Former Australia captain Steve Smith will soon undergo an elbow surgery that will put him out of action for at least six weeks.

This means, he will miss the remaining matches of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as well as Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Indian Premier League (IPL), reports UNB.

The right-handed batsman left Bangladesh to see doctors in Australia. He had an MRI test which suggested serious damage to the ligament of his elbow.

Smith was skippering Victorians in the BPL but played only two matches. He was seen heavily strapping his elbow's irritating area during those matches.

Victorians were expecting him to join the squad after some check-ups at home. But a local media report suggested that he would likely undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Reports revealed that Smith is expected to be in a brace for six weeks and will need to go through extensive rehabilitation. So, it will be too early to say a date for Smith's return to competitive cricket.

Smith is currently serving a year-long ban for this involvement in ball tampering scandal in last March in South Africa.
