Tamim Iqbal wants to skip Afghanistan Test, tri-series

August 11, 2019 00:00:00

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal wants to skip the first two international events of the Tigers through which their home season will start, report agencies.

He requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) not to consider him in the solitary Test against Afghanistan and then the tri-series involving Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Afghanistan will arrive in Dhaka on August 31 and they will play their first Test against Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from September 05 to 09.

After the Test, Bangladesh will play a tri-series T20 with Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. Bangladesh will play at least four games in that series.

The southpaw went through a bad patch during the World Cup. He failed to live up to the expectations in the cricket's showpiece event. After that, he failed in the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka as well.

Akram Khan, the chairman of cricket operation committee of BCB, said Tamim submitted a letter to BCB requesting not to consider him in the two events.

However, BCB is yet to make any decision in this issue. Akram told the media that BCB will come up with a decision after the vacation of Eid-Ul-Azha.

After his match-winning 141 in the BPL final in February, Tamim had a rough time in the ODIs in New Zealand before bouncing back superbly in the Tests. He then continued his good form during the tri-series in Ireland, scoring crucial runs before slowly going off the boil in the World Cup, culminating in a woeful Sri Lanka series.

Tamim had a below-par outing in the just-concluded three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he accumulated only 21 runs. He also couldn't make an impact in the World Cup, scoring just one fifty and ended up with 235 runs from eight innings at an average of 29.37.
