ICC T20 World Cup 2021

Tigers look to avoid slip-ups

October 16, 2021 00:00:00

The marquee T20 World Cup 2021 event is set to begin tomorrow (Sunday) and end on November 14. The matches will be played in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman at different venues.

Bangladesh National Cricket Team, which Mahmudullah Riyad will lead, failed to make the entry in Super 12s through direct qualifications, report agencies.

Bangladesh are placed in Group B of the Round-1 of the T20 World Cup 2021 alongside Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Oman. They will begin their World Cup journey with a battle against Scotland tomorrow (Sunday). Team Bangladesh have some very good experienced campaigners on the side, and they will be hoping for an easy entry into the Super 12s by winning Round- 1.

Bangladesh have enjoyed immense success in the last few T20s series they played at home.

So far, in the six editions of the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh had never made it into the finals of the tournament, even in the 2014 World Cup when they were hosting the tournament.

Meanwhile, with the momentum on their side, Bangladesh will be hoping for a better outcome this time in T20 World Cup 2021.

Ranked outside the top eight at the cut-off almost three years ago, Bangladesh rise to sixth for recent success in the format.

A trip to the Middle East looks eminently preferable, though they might have preferred to do their qualifying on the low slow decks of the UAE rather than the comparatively fresh and relatively batting-friendly wickets at Muscat.

Nonetheless, Bangladesh find themselves in what is generally agreed to be the marginally easier of the two groups, and despite Oman's home advantage, Scotland's momentum and Papua New Guinea's irrepressible penchant for upsets, they have reason to be comparatively confident.

Based on experience, Bangladesh will know how slim the margins can be in the quickfire re-qualifying round, and the sides recent warm-up games have highlighted some of their vulnerabilities. Yet coming up against an in-form Scotland side in their opening match, Bangladesh will have to fire from the get-go and though it is the Scots' batting line-up that will most worry the Bangladeshi camp, Oman and even PNG likewise have the capability to take advantage should Bangladesh not find their form with the ball. Though they remain the strongest team in Group B, they will have to step up their game if they are to book their flights onward to the UAE rather than back home.
