Tigresses face UAE today

Women’s WT20Q

July 10, 2018 00:00:00

Bangladesh women's cricket team will play the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their last Pool 'A' game of the Women's World T20 Qualifiers at Sportpark Maarschalkerweerd, Utrecht in Netherlands today (Tuesday), reports UNB.

The match will begin at 8pm [Bangladesh time].

Bangladesh bagged four points from the first two group matches and the UAE collected only two points playing as many games.

Bangladesh are all but in the semi-finals, but a UAE win might well upset the calculations. Bangladesh are still not in the semi-finals, as a seriously comprehensive loss to the UAE coupled with a PNG win over the Netherlands can still make it a net-run-rate shootout.

Participating teams split in two pools are competing in the qualifiers for the two seats of the Women's World T20 scheduled to be staged from November 9-25 in the West Indies.

Two teams from the each pool will advance to the semifinals and the two finalists will join Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and hosts West Indies in the World T20.

Bangladesh are holding the top slot in their pool crushing Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the Netherlands by eight wickets and by seven wickets respectively.

Rumana Ahmed and Fahima Khatun picked up three wickets each for Bangladesh in their win against the Netherlands as the hosts were bowled out for just 42 in 18 overs. Bangladesh chased the target scoring 44/3 in just 7.5 overs.

Their first win was equally convincing, as they restricted PNG to 84/6 in 20 overs where Panna Ghosh picked up 2/15. Shamima Sultana's 36-ball 35 steered the run chase of 86/2 in 14.5 overs.

The UAE got a six-wicket victory in their opening game against the Netherlands but lost to PNG by two wickets. They will be eager to bounce back from that loss but it is going to be far from simple against a strong side having the highest-ranked of the eight teams in the fray.
