In a bid to avoid a series sweep in the T20 format, the Bangladesh Women's team will take on Ireland in the third and final match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today (Monday). The match will start at 10am, reports BSS.
Bangladesh whitewashed Ireland in a three-match ODI series and was expected to win the T20 series too. But the Irish side came back strongly in this format to beat Bangladesh by 12 runs in the first match before taking an unassailable 2-0 lead, crushing the hosts by 47 runs in the second game.
The Tigresses, however, are now on the brink of their third straight whitewash in the format, having previously swept by Australia and India on home den this year. The defeat to Ireland in the second game also extended their losing streak to 10 matches in the T20 version at home, a testament that how vulnerable they are in this format like the national male team.
The two teams earlier played two bilateral series with Ireland winning the two-match series at their den in 2016 by 1-0 as the second game was abandoned. In 2018, Bangladesh again visited Ireland for a three-match series but that time won it by 2-1. Bangladesh however didn't bring up any changes to the squad for the series-ending game despite being outclassed by the Irish team. In fact, they kept faith on the squad that played the last two matches. But they are likely to bring up changes in the playing XI as they are seeking a consolation victory apart from avoiding a sweep.
Squad for 3rd T20: Nigar Sultana Joty (Captain & WK), Nahida Akter (Vice Captain), Murshida Khatun, Dilara Akter, Sharmin Akter Supta, Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Rabeya, Fahima Khatun, Fariha Islam Trisna, Jahanara Alam, Jannatul Ferdus, Taj Nehar, Shanjida Akhter Meghla
