Tigresses start series with 106-run loss to South Africa

Bangladesh women's cricket team made a dismal start in the five-match ODI series against hosts South Africa Women's conceding a 106-run defeat in the 1st match, reports UNB.

The match was held at Senwes Cricket Stadium in Potchefstroom, South Africa on Friday.

Chasing a target of 271, Bangladesh finished the innings on 164 for all in 49.3 overs. Fargana Hoque hammered unbeaten 69 off 146 balls, including five boundaries.

Opener Sanjida Islam (35 off 63b; 5x4) and number-11 player Panna Ghosh (23 off 27b; 4x4) were the other double figure scorers for Bangladesh.

Dane van Niekerk (3/23) and player of the match Chloe Tryon (2/14) shared five wickets for the side.

Batting first after winning the toss, South Africa scored 270 for 9 in 50 overs. Openers Chloe Tryon (65 off 42b; 9x4; 3x6) and Lizelle Lee (54 off 64b; 7x4; 1x6) hammered half centuries.

Left handed spinner Nahida Akter made the 1st breakthrough for Bangladesh, bowling out L Wolvaardt on 67/1 in 12.4 overs, before skipper Rumana Ahmed dismissed Trisha Chetty by dint of lbw.

Fahima Khatun bowled out L Lee on 98/3 in 23.2 overs before Nahida got her 2nd one in Mignon du Preez being caught by Fahima Khatun on 161/4 in 33.2 overs.

Nahida (2/22), Fahima Khatun (2/53) and experienced Jahanara Alam (2/62) equally shared six wickets. Rumana (1/38) and Salma Khatun (1/52) shared two wickets for Bangladesh.
